At the "George Bacovia" University in Bacau, the 8th edition of the event "Japan far away - close to Bacau" took place on Monday, June 1 this year, organized by the Bacau County Council - the "Iulian Antonescu" Museum Complex in Bacau, the "Symphony of Flowers & Rendez-vous with Flowers by Lucia Pădurariu" Association in Bacau, in partnership with the "George Bacovia" University, the Children's Palace and the "Bao" Club in Bacau.
The events were attended by no less than 350 participants, who came from Bacău and other localities to spend "Children's Day" under the sign of discovery, dialogue and Romanian-Japanese friendship. There were hours full of color, emotion and inspiration, in which Japan was closer than ever to Bacău.
But this year's edition will remain special also through a moment with a strong emotional charge and symbolic significance: the presence of His Excellency, Mr. Takashi Katae, Ambassador of Japan to Romania.. ,,For me, this presence meant more than an honor. It was confirmation that what was built, step by step, for 12 years, with patience, seriousness and a lot of soul, has value. That this cultural bridge between Japan and Bacău is seen, appreciated and recognized. There are moments that validate years of work more powerfully than any statistics or words of praise. The presence of the Japanese Ambassador in Bacău was one of these moments. A recognition of the effort of everyone for the continuity of this project and for its success”, said Mihaela Băbușanu, museographer, poet and publicist, the initiator and coordinator of this project.
On this occasion, Ambassador Takashi Katae gave an interview to the Journalism Circle of the Children's Palace in Bacău (coordinator, prof. Laura Huiban), answering questions posed by Daria-Andreea Apalane, a student in the performance group. The interview took place at the "George Bacovia" University in Bacău, on the occasion of this unique and interactive event.
Particularly moving was the video message sent by His Excellency, Mr. Ovidiu-Alexandru Raețchi, the Ambassador of Romania to Japan., whose support added a new dimension to this edition and reaffirmed the importance of cultural dialogue between Romania and Japan.
Between kimono presentations, haiku photo-exhibitions, painting and graphics, martial arts demonstrations, ikebana, creative writing and Japanese calligraphy workshops, artistic moments and meetings with guests, something was felt that cannot be conveyed in an event program: the joy of meeting people.
"This new edition of the `Far Japan – Close to Bacau` project has demonstrated once again that when a project is built with soul, it goes beyond the boundaries of an event. One day after this edition, gratitude remains. For the participants. For the collaborators, volunteers, partners and sponsors. And for all those who, for 12 years, have been by my side and helped me lay, brick by brick, the foundation of this beautiful story. For me and for all of them, the joy of a project that continues to grow and bring people, generations and cultures together remains. And if I had to summarize in a single idea what I felt at this edition, it would be: sometimes, the most beautiful reward for work done with soul is the moment when you see that it has come to be recognized and valued even by those you wanted to honor", Mihaela Băbușanu also said.
His thanks also go to:: Lucia Pădurariu, co-organizer of the edition with whom, in the last four editions, together they managed to form a beautiful team; "George Bacovia" University of Bacău, which hosted and generously supported this cultural endeavor, and, in particular, its rector, associate professor Dr. Andrei-Octavian Paraschivescu and his entire team, for the trust and support given; to the collaborators, colleagues, friends and good people of this story: Maria Oprea, Raluca Partenie, Radu Petrică, Iulian Tănase, Marta Cana, Aida-Ioana Lupeș, Maria Comănescu, Adina Andriesș, Mihnea Baran, Nicolae Agop, the ,,BAO” Club Bacău, Raluca Tibu, along with all those who, over all these years, have contributed a little of their time and talent to this project in previous editions: the ,,Himawari” Association Iași, Liliana Nestor, Oana Gheorghe, Constantin Broșu, the Haiku Association Constanța, Laura Văceanu; to Mrs. Mariana Tănase and the teachers Monica Creangă and Monică Șoldănescu, Mrs. Liliana Atomulese and the volunteers who were with us: Paizan Alexia, Murariu Ioana, Popa Maria, Urban Ioana Ecaterina, Stoica Briana, Brasoveanu Ana Maria Bulibaşa Ioana Sophie; to the institutional partners: "George Bacovia" University Bacau, Palatul Copiilor Bacau, Clubul ,,BAO" Bacau, to the sponsors who made this edition possible, and without whom many things would remain just ideas: Agricola Bacau, Asociatia Agricolă "Neam de Gospodari", Arena Mall Bacau, Simigeria Rustic, Krocky Bacau, KAI Sushi Bacau, Flando, Elite Garden, Art Up Moinești, Andra Natea Atelier Creație; to the media partners: Dețeptarea, UZPR – Filaila Bacau, DCTV, Plus TV, Acum TV, Radio România Actualități, Radio România Iași, County Public Service for Tourism Promotion and Coordination of Mountain Rescue Activity Bacau.

Slănic-Moldova Resort, 3rd place in the national competition "Destination of the Year® 2026"! Material created by Romulus-Dan Busnea
During the Destination of the Year® 2026 Gala, which celebrates excellence in Romanian tourism, on the stage of the Constanta Casino, one of the most spectacular symbolic buildings of Romania, on Thursday, May 14, the winners of this year's edition were designated..
"Almost 450.000 votes were cast in this edition, confirming the desire of Romanians to discover, support and choose destinations in their own country. Destination of the Year® thus continues the mission that established the project: that of inspiring Romanians to rediscover their own country and choose Romania for their holidays. More than a competition, the project today functions as a national promotion platform, which annually brings tens of millions of views to participating destinations and directly contributes to increasing the visibility of Romanian tourism", it is shown on the website https://www.destinatiaanului.ro/.
The Destination of the Year® 2026 Gala was more than an awards event, because it was, above all, a celebration of communities that invest in their identity, of people who build authentic tourist experiences, and of destinations that contribute, every year, to an increasingly visible and attractive Romania for its own tourists.
This year, to the great joy of the people of Bacău and beyond, the Slănic-Moldova resort, so beloved by Romanian and foreign tourists, obtained Third Place in the national competition "Destination of the Year 2026", in the "Beach Resorts" Category, alongside the Călimănești-Căciulata resort (Vâlcea), an important recognition for the beauty, potential and authenticity of one of the most valuable spa and tourist settlements in Romania. The first two places were occupied by the resorts of Techirghiol (Constanța) and Borsec (Harghita)..
The category dedicated to spa resorts highlighted destinations that capitalize on mineral waters, therapeutic lakes and wellness infrastructure, in a modern and attractive form, which reconfirms Romania's spa potential, one of the tourist resources with the greatest tradition at European level.
"This result belongs to all those who believed in Slănic-Moldova, voted, distributed promotional materials and supported this campaign through involvement and trust. Thank you! For us, this award is not just an honorary title. It is a confirmation that Slănic-Moldova deserves to be at the forefront of Romanian tourism again and, at the same time, a responsibility to continue to build, promote and develop this destination to its true value. We have unique natural resources, tradition, hospitality, spectacular landscapes and a diverse tourist offer, addressed both to those seeking health and recovery, and to those who want relaxation, nature and authentic experiences.
The result obtained motivates us to be more visible, more active and more united in promoting the resort. We want to build an even stronger campaign next year, with the involvement of the local community, economic agents, tourism operators and all those who love our resort. Thank you once again for your loyalty, support and trust!”, said theus Benone Moraru, mayor of the resort town of Slănic-Moldova.
Along with the mayor of the resort, the "Destination of the Year® 2026" Gala was also attended by Bogdan and Alina Șova from Slănic, one of the youngest and most successful entrepreneurial couples in Romanian tourism..
Heritage promotion project within the "Iulian Antonescu" Museum Complex in Bacău Material created by Romulus-Dan Busnea
In his capacity as conservator of cultural assets and manager of the management of "Archaeological and historical-documentary assets" within the "Iulian Antonescu" Museum Complex in Bacău, as well as an expert in assets with memorialistic value, Mihaela Băbușanu's professional activity is closely linked to the protection, research and valorization of cultural heritage. In parallel, her experience as a journalist/publicist has offered her a complementary perspective, oriented towards communication, accessibility and openness to the public.
Starting from these two directions, heritage and communication, Mihaela Băbușanu initiated a project, since February 2025, dedicated to promoting the heritage of the Bacău museum institution, in the public space, through the culture and attitude magazine "Plumb" (which appears both in print and online editions), with the support of its director, the poet, publicist and editor Ioan Prăjișteanu, a publication in which she works (pro bono), as editorial secretary.
The main objective of this partnership is increasing the visibility of cultural heritage, especially archaeological and historical-documentary heritage, through the use of publishing and editorial means accessible to the general public.
"The importance of the project lies in its contribution to the cultural education of the public, to raising awareness of the value of heritage and to strengthening the relationship between cultural institutions and the community. In a context where heritage often risks remaining in an area perceived as elitist or inaccessible, this type of initiative facilitates the public's approach to authentic cultural values. Through this approach, we aim not only to inform, but also to form a responsible attitude towards heritage, stimulating interest, respect and community involvement in its protection. Therefore, the project represents a natural combination between professional expertise in the field of heritage and public communication tools, aiming to bring heritage closer to people", said Mihaela Babusanu.
Within this project, promotion is achieved by publishing thematic articles presenting the institution's activities and the heritage held, including on the cover of the magazine some representative objects from the institution's heritage, as a visual element of impact, as well as by creating a bridge between the professional environment (specialists) and the general public..
The initiative undertaken by cultural heritage expert Mihaela Băbușanu aims both to promote the objects from the museum's heritage and to reflect the activities and events carried out within the institution, as well as memorialistic concerns.

Tens of thousands of Romanians have already voted for the finalist destinations in the "Destination of the Year® 2026" competition, and now, 5 days before the end of the voting phase, the interim ranking shows the first destinations that managed to stand out in the race for the title. It reflects the mobilization of local communities and the interest of tourists in the places that inspire vacations in Romania, but the differences remain close, and the last days may overturn the hierarchy.
Over 250.000 votes have already been cast, and the rankings are starting to outline the public's favorites, but nothing is decided. Voting is open until April 25th, and the final result can still be influenced.
For the residents and visitors of the Slănic-Moldova resort, their vote for Slănic-Moldova to become the "Tourist Destination of the Year 2026" - "Spa Resorts" Section means more than granting an honorary title, it represents a concrete step towards developing and consolidating a valuable tourist community..
"By supporting this resort, you directly contribute to its promotion and to the recognition of the efforts of local investors. The increase in the number of tourists and those who choose Slănic-Moldova for relaxation, treatment or recovery stimulates the local business environment to evolve, invest and offer better and better services, adapted to all categories of visitors. "The Slănic-Moldova resort is the ideal destination for reconnecting man with nature. It is the place where the exceptionally ozonated air challenges you to take walks on the land blessed with healing springs, where for over 225 years, people have been restoring their health, discovering authentic ancestral values, traditions, stories engraved in stone or imprinted in the hearts of the householders. Here you can experience unforgettable moments, both in the midst of unique landscapes and impeccable conditions for accommodation, meals, relaxation, SPA and excursions, local cultural, sports or gastronomic experiences. In a show of color and architecture, the peace and harmony are interrupted by the sound of the park's brass band or the crystalline chirps of children. Exploring the mountain trails or climbing the chairlift to the sky, witnessing the formidable concert of nature, on terraces covered with flowers, at the table with loved ones, enjoying the water of the beneficial springs, you discover new and new reasons to return to Slănic-Moldova", is the presentation on the competition website, https://www.destinatiaanului.ro/.
"In recent years, the Slănic-Moldova resort has been among the most sought-after spa resorts in Romania, but also in the Republic of Moldova or Ukraine. The particularly picturesque natural setting, the quality and diversity of its mineral springs, the increase in accommodation capacity through the emergence of new hotel units, the treatment and Spa & Wellness facilities that cover the treatment and prevention of a large number of diseases, the varied leisure opportunities, here are some of the assets that keep it at the top of tourists' preferences. And we hope to see it also win the "Destination of the Year® 2026" competition, which is why we support and vote for the Slănic-Moldova resort! And don't forget, the last day of voting is April 25!", heThis is also the exhortation addressed by the representatives of the County Public Service for the Promotion of Tourism and the Coordination of Mountain Rescue Activities in Bacău.
