In the resort of Slănic-Moldova, an important international event will take place between July 3 and 6, which will bring together 30 mayors from Spain, Italy, Greece and Poland and 24 mayors from Romania, within the project "Active EUCitizens: Think Global, Act Local".
The project is initiated by the National Association of Balneary and Spa Resorts (ANSBBR) from Romania, is financed by the European Executive Agency for Education and Culture through the "Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme" funding program and has a budget of 166.500 euros, from which ANSBBR receives 60.790 euros.
The Slănic-Moldova meeting is the fifth stage of the project and aims to promote European values, so as to further increase the involvement of citizens and associative societies in the community.
"The project aims to increase the direct interaction between citizens and local authorities, to improve the consultation process, to strengthen the feeling of belonging to the European family. We also hope that these interactions with the administrations of the other countries present in Slănic-Moldova will greatly improve the communication between us, so that we can replicate the best practice models in our activities", he declared Gheorghe Baciu, the mayor of the Slănic-Moldova resort and the president of ANSBBR, which brings together over 33 town halls from all over the country.
For its part, ANSBR wants to find out through these meetings how spa tourism is developed in other countries, how the state takes care of the development of tourism or the improvement of the population's health.
"We are now in the fifth stage of the project, which means that the meetings in the other countries have already taken place, and the first meeting in Romania will take place in Slănic-Moldova. For us, as a resort, but also for the town halls that are part of ANSBBR, these meetings represent an extraordinary opportunity to promote tourism, the beauties and resources that our country has and that we can exploit for the benefit of man. The completion of this project will be followed by the submission of another project aimed at the development of green energy. We consider the use of non-polluting energy, because most spas are surrounded by protected areas and have a healthy environment, which we must continue to protect. We also aim to reduce the operating costs of the stations, because the maintenance of green spaces or lighting requires very high expenses", mayor Gheorghe Baciu also said.
According to the local authorities, a research project is also being prepared in Slănic-Moldova, which will take place in several countries and which will allow, in the end, the best possible utilization of the natural resources available to our country and implicitly the Slănic-Moldova resort.
